New laws for online marketing communications

From 1 March 2011, the Advertising Standards Authority will extend laws to apply to marketing communications on organisation websites and in other web space under their control, including social networking sites like Facebook, Linked In and Twitter.

Owners of web sites and social networking accounts that are used for business purposes, should read the ASA’s statement which can be found on their website

Additional information can also be found on the Business Link site

I see a degree of vulnerability for those using their personal social networking accounts to promote their business on Facebook and Twitter. A section of the law covers Child protection and I often see inappropriate content on social media accounts that could cause an issue. Check out the new laws and make sure you don’t fall foul.
