How to reset Chrome Browser and set the home page

The most common issue I see in the field these days is corruption and/or hijacking of a user’s internet browser. I probably handle two or three queries a week via telephone for this issue.

The fix for this is pretty easy and involves re-setting the browser to the default settings, removing any add-ons that have crow barred their way onto the system. Unfortunately the process to do this varies for each browser. This one is for Google Chrome.

Reset Chrome

Open Chrome

Reset ChromeClick on the Options icon at the top right
Click on Settings

Reset Chrome Advanced SettingsClick on Advanced Settings (at bottom of the window)

Click on reset browser

To put your home page back:

Scroll up the settings again to the On Startup section
Reset Chrome Home Page

Click on Set Pages
Set Chrome Home Page

Enter the full url of the home page you want loaded (e.g.; http://www.google.co.uk )

Close the Chrome browser and then re-open it.

All being well any gremlins will now be gone!
