My BT Mail isn’t receiving emails

In the last few days one of my client was unfortunate in that her email account at BT/Yahoo had been hacked and spoof emails sent out.

On helping her change her password to improve security, we found that the ‘hackers’ had not only stolen her address book details but they had also set all her email to be automatically forwarded to a false email address that they had set up. This meant that no email appeared in her mail box and the identity thieves were receiving all email that was being sent to the client.

If you find that you BT mail account is not receiving emails then go online and check that it has not been auto forwarded, especially if you know your account has been hacked or spoofed.

To do this follow these steps…


  • Click on Email
  • Login to your account with your email address and password
  • Click the Options cog at the top right


  • Click on Mail Options
  • Click on POP & Forwarding


  • Check the settings. If the Mail is set to auto-forward and you did not do this yourself then it may be that your account has been hacked and your mail redirected.


  • Change the setting so that it does not autoforward by switching back to Access BT Mail via POP (or reset the forwarding details to the correct address if you do autoforward your email intentionally)


  • Click Save


… and you’re all done.
