Samsung Nexus 10 won’t start up – stuck in Google Loading Screen (coloured circles)

Came across this today. Following a recent update to the operating system a fairly new Samsung Nexus 10 would not start up.

This is apparently caused by a software bug😦
Annoyingly the fix will wipe your Nexus so only do this as a last resort.

  • Power Off the device
  • Hold the volume button and press and hold the power on button
  • A black and white window will pop up – press the volume button until you see Recovery Mode

  • Press the Power Button again
  • You’ll now get to a screen which shows an icon and No Command
  • This is the tricky bit. I had to try the following about six times until I got the timing right. Now press the power button and volume up button at the same time and release. This will generate a menu

  • Use the volume button to move down to ‘wipe data/factory reset’
  • Press the Power Button again
  • The next screen will show a series of Nos and one line that says Yes- Wipe Data – select the Yes line
  • Press the Power Button

The device will now be wiped and recovered to factory settings. Once done you will be back at the menu

  • Select reboot system now and press the power button

The system will now reboot and you will be prompted with the Welcome screen after a few minutes (be patient). AFter this you an then go through the usual setup process to recover your device.
