Dropbox won’t add to Word 2013 in Windows 8.1

If you are having problems with using the Dropbox addin script to add Dropbox as a new save location in Office 2013 then check the messages that are shown by the script.

If you are using an old version of the BAT file you will probably see that it is reporting that it can’t detect the OS version.

This can be fixed easily by editing the code.

Near the top of the code you will see the section that detects the version of OS and ‘jumps’ the script to the correct section for install.

REM Check Windows Version
ver | findstr /i “5\.0\.” > nul
IF %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 goto ver_2000
ver | findstr /i “5\.1\.” > nul
IF %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 goto ver_XP
ver | findstr /i “5\.2\.” > nul
IF %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 goto ver_2003
ver | findstr /i “6\.0\.” > nul
IF %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 goto ver_Vista
ver | findstr /i “6\.1\.” > nul
IF %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 goto ver_Win7
ver | findstr /i “6\.2\.” > nul
IF %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 goto ver_Win8
goto warn_and_exit

We need to change the code shown in red to accommodate the new version 8.1

Change the code to:-

ver | findstr /i “6\.3\.” > nul
IF %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 goto ver_Win8
goto warn_and_exit

So basically change the .2 to a .3 in the findstr line

Once this is done the script should run without error and you can use the standard well documented process to add a new ‘place’ on Word
